Tunisia: Banque de l’Habitat reports fall in NBI

Activities at the “Banque de l’Habitat” (BH) during the second quarter of 2012 was characterized primarily by an increase in outstanding loans to customers for a total of 147.4 million dinars, or 3.53%, resulting mainly from the increase in commercial loans and mortgages, compared to the second quarter of 2011.

The bank also recorded an increase in customer deposits amounting to 333 million dinars, or 10.26%, mainly from the positive development of savings deposits at 72 million dinars and sight deposits to 115.8 million dinars.

However, the bank recorded in the second half of 2012 a decrease in net banking income of 8 million dinars, or 5.09%, which the management mainly explains by “the decline in the MMR combined with lower operating expenses of 6.9 million dinars, or 10.33%”and a slight decrease in revenues of 1.2 million dinars, or 1.33%, which the management of BH attributes to a decrease in interest margin.
