Tunisia: BCT expects annual growth of 1.8% in 2016 and 3% in 2017

In a recent note entitled “monetary and cyclical developments and medium-term outlook,” the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) indicated that the recovery in economic growth that began in early 2016 should continue in the coming quarters though at a slower pace than expected a few months earlier.

Recent medium term forecasts have revised down GDP growth at constant prices of 2010 for the period from 2016 to 2017, said the BCT.

They foresee annual growth of around 1.8% in 2016 and 3% in 2017, against 2% and 3.5% estimated in April.

The downward revision results from the performance, below expectations, of several sectors during the first half of 2016, as well as the emergence of new downside risks in the longer term.
