Tunisia: Bizerte eligible for deepwater port

The Tunisian Company Bizerte Port Autonome “BPA SA”, has just presented to the Department of Transportation, a preliminary study for the creation of a deepwater port at Bizerte, in accordance with modern standards.

Kais Laribi, CEO of “BPA SA” told TAP the project, which takes into account the impacts on the nearby maritime and forest environment, will create, three years after the establishment of the port, 37,830 direct jobs (administrative and port) and indirect ones.

The company chose to create this port in Bizerte, given its strategic position, the importance of maritime traffic and the crossing of at least two hundred vessels per day.

The region also has necessary infrastructure for the creation of this project, including the Tunis / Bizerte highway, the rail network, nine industrial zones, a competitiveness pole and maritime works company.

CEO of “BPA SA” has emphasized the importance of this project in terms of boosting industrial economic activity, food industries and services in the region.

This project will be fully funded by the company with foreign partners.
