Tunisia: debt reaches 52% of GDP, Ben Hammouda tells

Tunisia’s debt now accounts for 52% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Minister of Economy and Finance, Hakim Ben Hammouda told Africanmanager on the sidelines of a conference organized on Thursday, December 25, 2014 in Gammarth, on the 20th anniversary of financial market structures under the theme: “financial market in the service of the economy.”

This is, according to the minister, a fairly manageable rate compared to other countries, adding that one can sound the alarm about the issue of debt only when it will reach 70% of GDP, which is not the case for Tunisia today, according to him.

Ben Hammouda, however, called for showing greater interest for the issue of debt.
