Tunisia: disbanded RCD owes 31 MTD to Ministry of Transportation

The disbanded RCD owes 31.880 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) to transport companies (land, sea and air), announced the Minister of Transport, Abdelkarim Harouni, during a discussion session with the government at the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) in Bardo.

The amounts due are divided between domestic and regional transport (15.798 MTD) Tunisair (938,000 dinars) and SNCFT (3 MTD). In addition, 10, 517 MTD were awarded in grants and donations to RCD.

Moreover, the amounts payable by the disbanded RCD to the CTN (Tunisian Navigation Company) reached 2.421 MTD, between 1998 and 2010 where as those required by the OACA (Office of Civil Aviation and Airports ), reached nearly 516,000 dinars over the period between 2009 and 2010.

As to Tunisair Handling, the amounts payable are estimated at 383,000 dinars for the period between 2007 and 2010.

The Minister of Transport noted that the Government has decided to set up a committee under the chairmanship of the Ministry of State Property and Land Affairs, to address the issue of financial assets of the RCD and repay money owed to the department.

An investigation was opened at all transport companies, he said, and all corruption cases (42 cases) were transferred to the Court of Financial Discipline. The Ministry is awaiting judgment.
