Tunisia: Energy trade deficit falls by 7% in 2023

The energy trade deficit fell by 7% in 2023 (taking into account the royalties on Algerian gas exported via Tunisia) compared with 2022, to 8,993 million dinars, according to the monthly report on the energy situation for December 2023 published by the National Observatory of Energy and Mines.

According to the report, exports of energy products at the end of December 2023 went down by 23% in value terms compared to the same period in 2022, to TND 4,083 million. The same is true for imports, which decreased by 13% to TND 13,076 million.

In 2023, the value of exports of petroleum products fell by 35% compared with the previous year to TND 913 million.

The value of imports of petroleum products also fell by 13% compared with 2022, to TND 7,846 million. Similarly, the value of crude oil imports fell by 29% to TND 1,713 million.
