Tunisia: Expatriates’ remittances up 23% in 2012

Remittances of Tunisians abroad posted an increase of 23% in 2012 compared to 2011, said Secretary of State for Immigration and Tunisian Expatriates.

These remittances are estimated at about 3,491 MD.

Tunisian expatriates carried out 157 industrial projects in 2012. These projects have mobilized nearly 21,974 MD of investment and helped create 1,023 job positions against 764 in 2011, according to statistics provided by the Secretariat of State for Immigration.

Investments made by Tunisians resident abroad in the industrial sector in 2010 are estimated at 6,472 MD. They have created 101 projects generating 622 jobs.

Regarding services projects, the Tunisian community abroad has achieved during the first seven months of 2012 some 1,254 projects with more than 34,056 MTD (1917 job positions). Tunisian expatriates imported 32,843 vehicles in 2012.
