Tunisia falls to 14th place in Africa in 2023 Global Innovation Index

Tunisia has dropped six places in the latest Global Innovation Index 2023. The country is now ranked 79th out of 132 countries assessed, compared to 73rd in 2022. Its score fell from 27.9 in the previous year’s report to 26.9.

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) ranking, Tunisia ranks 14th in Africa, down from 4th last year.

The Global Innovation Index assesses the performance of the innovation ecosystem in 132 countries by tracking the latest global trends in innovation. The assessment is based on 81 different indicators, including creativity, knowledge and technology.

Mauritius (45th) and South Africa (61st) are the two most innovative African economies according to this index, while Morocco (67th overall) is the third most innovative country in Africa.

Europe is home to the largest number of innovative economies, with seven European countries appearing in the global top 10 of the Innovation Index. Switzerland ranks first with a score of 67.6, followed by Sweden in second place with a score of 64.2.

The United States completes the top three with a score of 63.5. Singapore is in the top five, while Indonesia joins China, Turkey, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Vietnam as the countries that have made the most impressive progress in innovation over the past decade.

The UK ranks fourth and the Netherlands fifth. Germany ranks eighth in the world for innovation, followed by Finland and Denmark.
