Tunisia: Remittances from Tunisians abroad hit a record TND 5.7 billion

Tunisians living abroad (TRE) remitted a record 5.7 billion dinars to their country of origin in the first nine months of this year, according to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT).

Up 5% on the previous year (+264.5 million dinars), these remittances provided significant financial support for Tunisia.

In fact, the good performance of expat remittances, together with the consolidation of tourism receipts, contributed to the narrowing of the country’s current account deficit.

In euro terms, remittances from the diaspora to Tunisia amounted to the equivalent of €1.7 billion at the end of September (average monthly rate on the interbank market over the first nine months of the year): 1 euro = 3.3528 dinars).
