Tunisia: FDI up 13.6% at end of September

The flow of foreign investments reached a total of 1,648.4 million dinars (MD), up 13.6%, between 2016 and 2017, according to the results of the first nine months of the current year, published by the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA).

This flow breaks down into 1,592 MD in foreign direct investment -FDI- (+13,2%, in comparison with 2016, rate close to that of 2015), and in 56.4 MD in portfolio, up 27,7 %, compared to 2016, but down sharply compared to 2015 (-84.2%), year in which investments in portfolio had amounted to 356.9 MD.

An analysis of the sectoral distribution of foreign investment (at the end of September) shows a decline in energy investment of 9.3%, to 707.8 MD, against a significant increase in investments in industry by 41.3% at 706.8 MD.

In terms of services, foreign investment oriented towards this sector, grew 39.7% to 161.6 MD, while they had recorded a consecutive decrease in 2014 and 2015 of -29.6 % and – 28.9%, respectively.

The amounts of foreign investment in agriculture remain low even though they rose by 47.1%, compared to 2016, to 15.8 MD.
