Tunisia: Fisheries exports down by 0.3% in volume and 2.7% in value

Exports of fishery products reached 12.87 thousand tons in volume for a total value of 253 MD, at the end of May 2023, compared to 12.91 thousand tons for a value of TND 260 million recorded in the same period last year, down 0.3% in volume and 2.7% in value.

According to the National Agricultural Observatory (ONAGRI), the average export prices decreased from TND 20.1/kg to TND 19.6 /kg compared to the same period in 2002.

This decline is due to the fall in prices for oysters, one of the main export species, shellfish, canned and semi-preserved products.

According to the same source, Tunisia’s exports go to 39 markets, with Italy in first place in terms of value (35.4%), followed by Libya (19.3%), the United Arab Emirates (12.6%) and Spain (10.7%).

On the other hand, Tunisian imports of fishery products at the end of May 2023 reached almost 28.8 thousand tons in volume for a value of TND 165.5 million, compared with 26 thousand tons for a value of TND 150 million during the same period in 2022.

Tunisian imports increased by 10.8% in volume and 10% in value, while import prices remained stable compared to 2022 (5.7 dinar/kg).

At the end of May 2023, the external balance of trade in fishery products showed a positive difference of TND 87.5 million compared to TND 110 million recorded during the same period in 2022, i.e. a decrease of 20.5%.
