Tunisia: food trade balance shows surplus of 219 MD in 4 months of 2018

The food trade balance recorded a surplus of 219.5 million dinars (MD) during the first four months of 2018, against a deficit of 490.9MD in the same period 2017.

The coverage rate of imports by exports over the same period has increased by 112.1%, compared to 67.4% in 2017.

This growth is due to the rise in the value of food exports by 100.6%. %, compared with a 20.7% increase in food imports.

The surplus in the food trade balance helped improve the rate of coverage of the trade balance by 1.2 points, which reached 72.7% during this period.

Exports of food products registered a hike of 100.6% compared to the same period 2017 because of the doubling of olive oil exports (107 thousand tons against 32.7 thousand tons quantity and 1016 MD against 284 MD in value).
