Tunisia: Food trade deficit narrows to TND 768 million in September

The food trade deficit narrowed to TND 768 million, at the end of September 2023, compared with TND 1,950.2 million for the same period in 2022, according to data published on Thursday by the National Agricultural Observatory (ONAGRI).

Coverage improved to 86.7%, compared with 68% at the end of September 2023.

Food exports increased by 20.5%, while imports fell by 5.5%.

According to the Observatory, the reduction in the deficit is the result of the increase in exports of olive oil (+55.7%) against the fall in imports of grain (-13.7%) and vegetable oils (-29.2%), despite the increase in imports of sugar (+109%) and milk and derivatives (+63.7%).
