The grain crop is estimated this year at nearly 25 million quintals, against 23 million quintals during the past season, said Minister of Agriculture, Mohamed Ben Salem.
During a discussion session on the agricultural sector, held Monday at the National Constituent Assembly (ANC), the Minister of Agriculture, warned against the rate of loss of the crop which ranges from 10 to 15%, generating an annual loss estimated at 230 million dinars.
Necessary arrangements have been made to ensure and protect the crop against all forms of threat and fight against fire, noted the Minister, proposing the implementation of measures criminalizing the burning of the crop.
Mr. Ben Salem stressed the need to review the criteria for grading wheat in the shortest possible time.
