Tunisia: IFC willing to increase commitment

World Ban Group International Finance Corporation (IFC) Vice-President for the Middle East and Africa Sérgio Pimenta stressed IFC’s commitment to support development in Tunisia.

Speaking on ExpressFM Wednesday, he said: “we are really ready to increase our financial commitments, our operations; it is both increasing the amount of direct funding, and also which is important for me, to increase our support in terms of advice and expertise, “he pointed out.

“We believe that banks play an absolutely key role in the development of an economy and we believe that building positive partnerships with banks is an excellent solution,” he added.

According to him, the most important thing for IFC in Tunisia in the short term is to “support the entire public-private partnership program and projects that can contribute to export and also serve local markets” such as agriculture, agribusiness, services and light industries.

IFC is an institution of the World Bank Group that provides financing and advice to the private sector in developing countries.

It was established in 1956 and has been operating in Tunisia since 1962, when it opened an office in 2012.
