Tunisia, India partner in biotechnology and medical sciences

India and Tunisia will launch joint research in the field of biotechnology, medical sciences and other related areas of science and technology to identify and promote areas for joint research beneficial to both countries.

The research will be developed within the framework of cooperation in the field of science and technology for the 2012-20114 period.

The Ministry of Science and Technology and the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research will be partners in the program.

Indian and Tunisian universities and research centers and institutes were invited to submit proposals for joint scientific and technological research and development projects.

Key areas identified are biotechnology, material sciences, medical science and popular science.

The project duration is two years and can be extended by one year, based on the assessment of progress, by mutual agreement of both coordinating departments. The two departments have also partnered on the mode of support such as visits of researchers from both countries. Approved projects should be jointly launched in September 2012.

Tunisia was looking for opportunities to strengthen ties with India in the field of science and technology. The third meeting of the Joint Committee Meeting will be held shortly in New Delhi to advance collaborations in progress. The two countries have set up joint working groups in many areas including drugs and pharmaceuticals.
