Tunisia: Industrial production rises 3.2% in the third quarter

Industrial production saw a 3.2% in the third quarter of 2021, compared to the same quarter of last year, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced Thursday, November 25, 2021.

This improvement is mainly due to the increase recorded in the extractive industries by 30%, explained by higher production in the energy sector by 29.9% as well as the mining sector by 30.6%.

Similarly, increases in production are observed in the mechanical and electrical industry by 2.8% as well as the chemical industry by 13.8%.

Industrial production in all industry recorded a decline of 0.7% in September 2021 in monthly variation after an increase of 2.2% during August.

This decline results mainly from the 3.5% drop in production observed in the energy sector after an increase by 11.1% in the previous month, as well as the decrease in the food industry sector (-1.4%), the chemical industry sector (-2.8%) as well as the petroleum products refining sector (-5.3%).

On the other hand, increases are recorded in the building materials, ceramics and glass sector (+0.8% after -2.9% during August 2021) and in the mining sector (+1.1% after -8.4%).

The output of mechanical and electrical industries and those of textiles, clothing and leather remains almost stable with respective rises of 0.3% and 0.5%, compared to +3.2% and +2.4% in August.
