The inflation rate rose for the second consecutive time, reaching 3.6% in May 2016 (3.4% in April), after a period of successive falls of six months, said the National Institute of Statistics (INS), in its monthly bulletin published on its website.
The price of free products (non-regulated) rose 4.6% over a year; the increase relates more particularly to free food products (+3.4%).
According to INS, the increase in inflation is the result of an acceleration in the rate of price change between May and April 2016 (+ 0.6%), but also the increase in prices during the same period in the previous year (+ 0.4%). This is most marked in the prices of food and beverages (+ 1% in 2016 against + 0% in 2015).
