Tunisia: Launch of Mediterranean Development Initiative

After creating its European regional base with the America-Bosnia Foundation, The SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins University has officially announced the launch of the Mediterranean Initiative for Development (MID), at the end of the Conference on Women in Leadership and Civil Society in Sarajevo.

The Mediterranean Initiative for Development (MID) is a non-profit organization based in Tunisia. Its first Executive Director is Tunisian economist Ghazi Ben Ahmed. MID serves as a regional base for trilateral cooperation with the SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins University and America- Bosnia Foundation.

This partnership aims to promote regional transatlantic cooperation, particularly economic, with countries of the Mediterranean region, especially with countries of North Africa.

The Mediterranean Initiative for Development (MID) will launch, among others, the Business Advisory Council for North Africa to further strengthen regional economic integration.

MID will continue to focus on strengthening the role of women in all areas and will soon host the “Mediterranean Civil Society and Women in Leadership,” Conference in October 2014 in Tunis, to assess the achievements following the Sarajevo Conference held in November 2013 and to offer new programs and activities.
