Tunisia: Les Ciments de Bizerte sees overall turnover fall 5.35% in 2022

The overall turnover of the company Ciments de Bizerte decreased by 5.35% in 2022, compared to 2021, standing at TND 123 836 432, according to its activity indicators for the 4th quarter of 2022, published Thursday on the website of the Tunis Stock Exchange.

The Company’s local turnover grew by 1.61% in 2022 compared to 2021 to TND 112 426 784. Its export turnover decreased by 43.52% to TND 11 409 648. This decrease is mainly explained by the sharp increases in the price of electricity and petroleum coke, having generated an increase in the cost price.

The production of clinker reached 538,150 tons at the end of December 2022, down 24.21% compared to 2021. This regression is the result of the forced stoppage due to a land problem which caused the disruption of raw material supply.

This same problem has caused a decline in the production of cement which reached 553,883 tons at the end of December 2022, decreasing by 17.70%, compared to the year 2021.

The production of lime also fell by 53.95% compared to 2021, due to a lack of demand on the domestic market. Cement and lime production is in direct correlation with the quantities sold.

Despite the financial difficulties, the company said it has continued to meet its commitments to its suppliers and banks. It has also been able to pay last year TND 15 459 884 of its medium-term loans which have decreased by 11.25% to TND 121 860 263 in 2022.

The management credits increased by TND 19 125 588 to TND 32 039 602 in 2022. This increase is due mainly to the financing of purchases of bags of packaging, fuel and petroleum coke.
