Tunisia: manufacturing and services account for 92% of overall job openings in 2018

Companies operating in manufacturing and services sectors account for 92% of all job openings, according to the recently published 2018 Annual Report of the National Agency for Employment and Self-Employment (ANETI).

The manufacturing industries (including textiles) and the services sector (including tourism) are the main pillars of employment with 53,837 jobs (53.5%) and 39,479 jobs (39.2%), respectively, out of a total of 100,695 jobs generated in 2018, according to the report.

The same source indicates that the contributions of the different economic activities in terms of job vacancies in 2018 grew 62.6% in the mining and energy sectors, 53.4% in the agriculture and fishing sectors, 33.5% in the construction and public works sectors and 23.3% in the textile sector, according to the same source.

By region, the year 2018 saw an increase in the number of job vacancies, with 65.7% in the South-eastern region, followed by the Central-eastern region with 44.8%, the Tunis district with 16.8% and Mid-western region with 11.8%, while the North-western region recorded a decrease of 22.2% along with the South-western (15.8) and North-eastern region (1.9%).
