According to Tunisia’s external trade figures, released on Friday, March 8, 2019 by the National Institute of Statistics (INS), the value of Tunisia’s exports of olive oil fell by 47% at the end of February 2019 to to 288.6 million dinars against 544.8 million in the first two months of 2018.
In fact, sales of olive oil declined by 38% during the month of January to 145.5 million dinars, against 236.2 million in January 2018.
This regression is due particularly to the lower sale prices from € 3.42 / kg in January 2018 to € 2.62 / kg in January 2019 (according to the BCT).
Exports of olive oil exploded during the last season posting a rise of 150% between November 1, 2017 and April 30, 2018.
In total, 134,403 tons of “green gold” were exported , which is equivalent to revenues of 1.35 billion dinars over this period.
For the whole year 2018, revenues from exports of olive oil reached 2.12 billion dinars against 1 billion in 2017.
