Tunisia: three public banks may be partially privatized

At a press conference held on Monday in Tunis, Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Chedly Ayari spoke of the possibility of merging the three public banks, namely the “Banque de l’habitat” (BH ), the “Banque Nationale Agricole” (BNA) and the “Société Tunisienne de Banque” (STB) and sell some parts of them to private operators.

This action is designed to make these banks a private banking pole to finance small and medium enterprises (SMEs), he said.

An Audit work will be done soon to diagnose various problems and propose, among others, solutions.
