Tunisia: trade balance in fishery products in surplus by TND 217 mln at end August 2023

The surplus in the trade balance of fishery products increased by 5.3% to TND 217 million between the end of August 2022 and 2023, according to data released by the National Agricultural Observatory (ONAGRI).

Exports of fishery products stood at 22,500 tons worth TND 497 million at the end of August 2023, virtually unchanged in value and quantity compared to the same period in 2022.

ONAGRI also reported a virtual stagnation in export prices compared to August 2022 (21.8 TND/KG). The most exported products are fish (9.7 thousand tons), shellfish (6 thousand tons) and canned and semi-canned products (5 thousand tons).

Tunisia exports fish products to 43 destinations. Italy is the main importer (33%), followed by Libya (16%), Malta (15%) and Spain (12%).

The value of imports of fishery products fell by 3.8% to €280 million at the end of August 2002. The volume of imports fell by 8.5% to 43,100 tons.

Import prices increased slightly compared to the same period in 2022 to TND 6.5 Kg.

Of the quantities imported, 71% are intended for industrial processing (frozen tuna and anchovies), 22% for market supply and 7% for fattening.
