Tunisia will remain “safe” and “strong”, President Saied reassures as he meets Interior Minister

Tunisia will remain “safe” and “strong” through its institutions and the cohesion of its people, President of the Republic Kaïs Saïed said as he received Interior Minister Taoufik Charfeddine at the Palace of Carthage.

The meeting took place a few hours after a tunnel was discovered near the residence of the French ambassador in Marsa.

In a video posted by the Presidency of the Republic Wednesday evening, the Head of State said despite attempts to exaggerate about that tunnel, “there is evidence on the existence of a criminal action» adding that “the competent security authorities will reveal the truth and the case will be brought to justice.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of the Interior said following information received by the security services, reporting suspected activity in a house in Marsa, near the residence of the French ambassador to Tunisia, police raided the house after co-ordination with the Public Prosecutor.

“A tunnel were discovered,» the ministry added, stating that «after verification, it turned out that among the people visiting the house is an individual known for his extremism.»
