Tunisia:Current account deficit at its lowest level since 2007

For 2023 as a whole, Tunisia’s current account showed a deficit of TND 4,058 million, or 2.6% of GDP, compared with a deficit of TND 12,451 million, or 8.7% of GDP, a year earlier.

According to the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), this is the lowest level of the current account deficit recorded since 2007.

The contraction of the trade deficit to 17.1 billion dinars in 2023, compared with 25.2 billion in 2022, and the improvement in the surplus on the balance of services (+6 billion dinars compared with +5.4 billion in 2022) have contributed to the significant reduction in the current account deficit, explains the BCT.
