The Tunisian Competition Council issued on May 29, 2024 a preliminary decision condemning a number of banking institutions for anti-competitive practices under the provisions of Article 5 of Law No. 36 of September 15, 2015 on the reorganization of competition and prices.
The condemnation related to an unlawful agreement on charging additional interest on deferred payments during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Council also condemned the accused banks, whose identities it did not reveal, to fines of TND 142 million (photo by Raqabah) and ordered these banks to cease these practices.
The Council also reported the dismissal of proceedings against 6 other banks.
