Tunisians’ remittances reach 7.3 billion dinars by end of October

Remittances from Tunisians Residing Abroad (TRE) reached 7.3 billion dinars at the end of October 2025, compared to 6.8 billion during the same period the previous year, according to the latest data published by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT),

This growth of approximately 7.4% year-on-year confirms the crucial role of the Tunisian diaspora in supporting the national economy.

These transfers, often considered a lifeline for the balance of payments, continue to provide a regular inflow of foreign currency in an economic context marked by scarce external resources and weak foreign investment.

Furthermore, expat remittances are one of Tunisia’s main sources of external financing, alongside tourism revenues and exports of goods and services.

For comparison, these transfers exceed tourism revenues, which were estimated at 7 billion dinars at the same date.

However, these flows, although significant, remain largely directed towards household consumption rather than productive investments.

Several experts are therefore advocating for the establishment of incentive mechanisms to channel a portion of these funds towards development projects, particularly in the interior regions.

In the meantime, the resilience of remittances remains a major support for the country’s financial stability in a still uncertain international environment.
