Tunisia: 14.975 MTD in foreign currency in coffers of BCT

As of March 24, 2015, the level of Tunisian net foreign assets recorded a net consolidation to 14,975 million Tunisian dinars (MTD) or 129 days of import, against 13,097 MTD (112 days) at the end of 2014.

In a statement after its Executive Board meeting Wednesday, March 25, the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) explains this increase by the “surplus of the balance of factor income and current transfers which declined by 58 MTD to stand at 166 MTD in relation to the increase in spending under “unearned income” by 8% to 613 MTD, rising labor income by 1% compared to its level in the first two months of 2014 to 582 MTD.”

The BCT added “as to the surplus of capital and financial transactions, it posted a significant increase to reach 2,269 MTD in the first two months in 2015 against 933 MTD a year earlier, following considerable firming up of the account balance of the loans-borrowing and other commitments which reached 2,354 MTD and consolidation of the surplus of foreign investment by 55.4% to 275 MTD, knowing that FDI inflows have registered a growth of 16.9%, reaching 222 MTD against 190 MTD in 2014.”
