Tunisia: each citizen is indebted by USD 173 to IMF

Tunisia ranked 11th among the countries most indebted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with an outstanding debt of 1.6 billion SDR, equivalent to a little over 2 billion dollars at the current rate of the SDR.

According to the latest publication of the IMF on the debt held by the Fund on the countries of the world, Tunisia is ahead of Morocco (12th) whose debt is 1.5 billion SDR (1.94 billion dollars).

Therefore, each Tunisian is now indebted to the IMF to the tune of 173 dollars (554 dinars). Indeed, Tunisia emerges as the fourth most indebted country to the IMF.

Moreover, Egypt is the second largest debtor of the IMF with a debt that amounts to 13.6 billion SDR (17.7 billion dollars). In first place is Argentina with a debt of SDR 32.7 billion ($42.4 billion).

It should be recalled that Tunisia has obtained two loans from the IMF after 2011. The first, amounting to $ 1.74 billion, was granted over the period 2013-2015.

As for the second loan, it was granted in 2016 for an amount of $ 2.9 billion and spread over a period of four years.
