Tunisia exports 183,000 tonnes of olive oil valued at 1,539 MD until end September 2021

Tunisia’s olive oil exports stood at 183,000 tonnes in the 2020-2021 season (from October 1, 2020 to end September 2021), valued at 1,539 million dinars (MD), against 343,000 tonnes (worth 2078 MD) in the previous season.

Data from the Directorate General of Agricultural Production, under the Ministry of Agriculture showed that packaged olive oil exports hit 24,000 tonnes valued at 284 MD.

The decline in exports is due to lower olive production.

This is due to the phenomenon of alternating production, but also to climatic factors and lack of rain in the past season.

Olive oil production should see a 70% increase in the 2021-2022 season, according to the same source.

The Department of Agriculture expects an olive production of 1.2 million tons of olives, equivalent to 240,000 tonnes of oil, for the 2021-2022 campaign, up more than 70% compared to the previous season (140 thousand tonnes of olive oil).

It added that the latest rainfall recorded in several production areas will have a positive impact on the quality and percentage of oil contained in the olive.
