Tunisia: foreign exchange reserves hit 10-year record high

The stock of foreign exchange reserves of the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) now covers 147 days of imports, its highest level since December 2010.

According to daily data from the BCT, net foreign exchange reserves reached 21.3 billion dinars, to November 9, 2020, posting a growth of nearly 3 billion dinars compared to the same date last year, the equivalent of 44 days of imports.

This growth comes in spite of the fall in tourism revenues which declined by 3 billion dinars over the first 10 months of the year.

On the other hand, labor income (consisting mainly of remittances from expats) continued to rise, reaching a record 4.7 billion dinars at the end of October, up 415 million dinars compared to the same date last year.
