Tunisia: Gafsa Yazaki Group eyes 5,220 jobs if security conditions met

“Implementation of the initial program of Yazaki Group to reach 5,200 employment positions, workers and managers, within the company depends on improving the social, economic and security conditions of the country,” said Thursday, Fernando Castro, Director of Operations at Japanese plant “YAZAKI” specializing in car cables industry.

In a media statement reported by TAP, on the occasion of a visit of the Ambassador of Japan in Tunis to the seat of the group, the official said that “Tunisia is a country that has excellent preferential benefits and therefore has priority in investment programs. »

Established since 2009 in the town of Gafsa, the group “Yazaki” has committed investments of 35 MTD. It currently employs 1028 people among workers and managers, against 2,540, workers and managers, in 2011, divided between production units located in Gafsa, Oum Laarayas and Metlaoui.

Social movements, strikes and road blocking, which hit the region after January 14, 2011, resulted in the closure of two plants in Melaoui and Oum Laarayas and freezing of the group’s expansion in the region.

A meeting took place between the Japanese ambassador and the governor of the region, on the prospects of Japanese investment in the region and ways to increase them.
