Tunisia had more than 10 million bank accounts at end of 2022

The number of bank accounts in Tunisia has grown by 1.7% per year over the past five years and is expected to exceed 10 million accounts by the end of 2022, the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) said in a report published on Friday.

By the end of 2022, the number of bank cards issued had reached 6.6 million, representing an average annual growth rate of 9.4% over the period 2018-2022, the BCT added in its annual report on banking supervision for the fiscal year 2022.

At the same time, the number of ATMs /GABs (Automatic Teller Machines) increased by an average of 3.1% per year to reach 3,039 units at the end of 2022.

The network of bank branches was consolidated, increasing from 1992 to 2031 at the end of 2022, i.e. one branch for every 5,812 inhabitants, compared with one branch for every 5,906 inhabitants a year earlier.

According to the BCT, 67% of branches are located in Greater Tunis and the Center-East.
