Tunisia: most profitable and loss-making state-owned enterprises in 2021

A report by the Ministry of Finance has revealed that 88 state-owned enterprises recorded combined net results of TND -2,981 million in 2020 and TND -1,129 million in 2021, an improvement of 1,852 million dinars (-62%).

This improvement in the combined net results is due to the positive net results of 40 state- owned enterprises worth TND 576.9 million in 2021.

The Chemical Group is in first place with a net profit of TND 133 million, followed by Régie Nationale du Tabac et des Allumettes (RNTA) with a profit of TND 96.9 million, Office de la Marine Marchande et des Ports (OMMP) with TND 61.6 million, Compagnie des Phosphates de Gafsa (CPG) with TND 47 million, Pharmacie Centrale with 45.5 million dinars and Tunisie Télécom with TND 32.5 million.

On the other hand, negative cumulative net results of TND 1,706 million were also recorded in 2021 by 48 state-owned enterprises.

The Grain Board stands out with a net loss of TND 477.2 million, followed by TRANSTU with a net deficit of TND 225.6 million and the Office de l’Aviation Civile et des Aéroports with a loss of TND 173.4 million.

Next came ETAP with a net loss of TND 139 million, the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Tunisiens (SNCFT) with a loss of TND 137.3 million and the Office du Commerce with a loss of TND 120.2 million.
