Tunisia: number of foreign visitors hit 2 million until November 20 (Minister)

Some 2,101,534 tourists have visited Tunisia until November 20, 2021, up 14.5% compared to the same period in 2020 which saw 1,835,076 foreign visitors, said Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Mohamed Moez Belhassine.

He was speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry’s headquarters to announce the launch, on December 11, of the international event “Destination Dahar” organized by the Authentic Tourism Federation of the Dahar (FTADD).

Tourist receipts rose 6.2% to TND 1.9 Million, while the number of overnight stays surged 23.4%, the Minister added.

He spoke about the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic on tourism, saying the appearance of new variants of the COVID-19 imposes an additional work and a firm application of the health protocols, in order to manage the crisis and to preserve people’s health.

Tunisia was among the first countries to introduce a specific health protocol for tourism facilities in May 2020, he indicated, stressing the need to review this protocol regularly, depending on the evolution of the pandemic.

Belhassine also deemed the health situation in Tunisia as currently stable, recalling however, the imperative to present a vaccination pass in public spaces, as of December 22.

He has also announced the organization of a tourism conference on the recovery of the French market at the end of the week and the visit by a delegation of major German travel agencies in a bid to revive tourism.
