Tunisia: Outstanding Treasury bills hit record TND 25 billion at end November

Amid tighter external financing conditions, the pressure on the liquidity needed to run the government increased further towards the end of the year.

In response, the Ministry of Finance turned to the domestic debt market. As a result, outstanding Treasury bills reached a record level of TND 25 billion at the end of November, up by TND 2.4 billion (+10.5%) compared to the same date in 2022.

Specifically, the outstanding amount of short-term Treasury bills (BTCs) rose from TND 6,128 million at the end of November 2022 to TND 9,543 million at the end of November, an increase of TND 3,415 million (+55%).

The outstanding amount of Assimilable Treasury Bills (BTA) reached TND 15,433 million, a decrease of TND 1 billion (-6%) compared to the level at the end of the eleven months of 2022.

It should be recalled that as of September 30, 2023, the State had managed to raise only 42% of the external loans planned for the whole of the current year, i.e. TND 4,458 million.
