The platform Data Pandas recently presented a ranking of 177 countries, assessing their school enrolment rates on a global scale.
The Data Pandas Education Index is part of the Knowledge component of the United Nations Human Development Index (HDI).
This index evaluates elements such as the number of planned and actual years of schooling, as well as academic performance at all levels. A country’s ranking on this index improves as it approaches a score of 1, reflecting better educational performance.
In Africa, Seychelles tops the ranking with a Global Education Index of 0.681, placing it 70th in the world. South Africa follows with an index of 0.627, 86th in the world, while Mauritius is third with an index of 0.601, 96th in the world.
Zimbabwe is fourth with an index of 0.535, 111th, followed by Botswana with an index of 0.526, 112th. Gabon follows in 114th place with an index of 0.517, while Sao Tome and Principe is 115th with an index of 0.470.
Tunisia, with an index of 0.469, ranks 8th in Africa and 116th in the world. Algeria is in ninth place with an index of 0.451, placing it 118th in the world.
Finally, Egypt completes this ranking with an index of 0.443, placing it in 120th place. As for Morocco, it occupies 140th place in the world with an index of 0.343.
At the international level, the Nordic countries regularly score highly on the Education Index and are widely recognized as having some of the best education systems in the world.
Iceland stands out as the highest ranked country in terms of education, with an index of 0.938. Germany follows closely with an index of 0.917. New Zealand is just behind with an index of 0.914.
Two other Nordic countries, Norway and Denmark, follow in fourth and fifth place respectively. Norway has an index of 0.912, while Denmark scores 0.909.
