Tunisia: three-quarters of Tunisians’ drug needs covered by local production

Domestic production covers 75% of the needs of Tunisians in drugs and it is possible to improve this figure, said the President of the National Chamber of Drug Manufacturers, Tarak Hammami.

Speaking on Express FM, he added that the pharmaceutical industry sector in Tunisia has high-level skills, which strengthens the confidence of Tunisians in locally manufactured drugs.

There are 41 drug manufacturers in addition to manufacturers of veterinary drugs and others, he said, noting that the sector employs 9,000 people of which 30 to 40% are graduates.

It is a sector that provides great services to citizens and the national economy. He also said that investment in the drug sector reaches 1.4 billion dinars until the end of 2021.

The President of the National Chamber of Drug Manufacturers also assured that the pace of creation of new companies went up from 30 companies in 2015 to 41 in 2021.
