Tunisia: TND had lost 1.6% against € and 1.9% against $ at end of October

Compared with its value at the end of December 2022 and at the end of October 2023, the Tunisian dinar (TND) depreciated on the interbank market by 1.6% against the euro, by 1.9% against the dollar and by 4.8% against the Moroccan dirham, while it appreciated by 11.1% against the Japanese yen, according to the latest figures from the BCT.

On the international exchange market, the euro depreciated by 1.1% against the dollar over the same period. On average, in the first ten months of 2023, the dinar depreciated by 3.2% against the euro, by 0.6% against the US dollar and by 0.2% against the Moroccan dirham, while it appreciated by 6.1% against the Japanese yen.

The BCT’s latest economic report also showed that foreign exchange transactions on the spot market totaled TND 15,878 million in the first nine months of the year, compared with TND 16,173 million a year earlier, a decrease of 1.8%. 

This decrease concerned transactions carried out on the interbank market (-26.8%), while interventions by the Central Bank of Tunisia increased (+68.1%).
