Household debt to the Tunisian banking sector totaled 29.4 billion dinars in 2024, compared to 28.7 billion the previous year, representing an increase of 2.3%, versus 3.1% in 2023 and 4.8% in 2022.
According to data from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), this slowdown is mainly explained by the deceleration in housing loans, which fell from 3.3% in 2023 to 0.8% in 2024.
As for non-performing or disputed loans, these continued their upward trend but at a slower pace, declining from 6.2% in 2023 to 3% in 2024.
This deceleration is notably due to the increase in the amount of written-off personal loans, which rose to 251 million dinars by the end of 2024, compared to 150 million dinars a year earlier.
