Tunisia, 3rd best African country to start an online business

UNCTAD and BusinessInsider Africa, on August 4, 2023, announced the 10 best African countries to start an online business. The index ranks 152 countries on their readiness for online shopping, a market estimated to be worth $4.4 trillion globally in 2018, up 7% year-on-year.

The BusinessInsider index ranks countries on access to secure internet servers, reliability of postal services, infrastructure and the proportion of the population that uses the internet and has an account with a financial institution or mobile money service provider.

The index ranked Mauritius first among the best countries in which to develop e-commerce. ” Mauritius boasts robust digital infrastructure and a tech-savvy population,” the index says. In second place is South Africa. ” A true e-commerce powerhouse, South Africa stands tall with a thriving online market and a digitally engaged consumer base,” according to the same source.

Tunisia is ranked 3rd and is seen as an economy that is” emerging as a promising hub for digital entrepreneurs, with its evolving digital landscape offering an array of opportunities.”
