Tunisia: CBF and ANME commit to energy transition

The National Energy Management Agency (ANME) and the Banking and Financial Council (CBF) on Tuesday formalized their commitment to the energy transition by signing a framework collaboration and partnership agreement.

The agreement, which aims to strengthen the role of the banking and financial sector in the implementation of the National Strategy for Energy Transition, is the result of the close collaboration between the two institutions over the years. It has an ambitious action plan born of their shared desire to strengthen their cooperation to promote financing mechanisms and solutions that encourage the energy transition and the reduction of CO2 emissions, in line with the objectives of the Tunisian Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

This action plan involves substantial collaboration aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of financial institutions’ portfolios. It also includes the launch of the Green Banking Initiative and the distribution of a guide to financing mechanisms and solutions, which will be integrated into a digital platform by the end of March. Regional awareness-raising campaigns are also planned, among other initiatives.

The signing of the agreement, which took place at an official ceremony attended by the managing directors of the financial institutions and senior executives from the two organizations, aims to mobilize all the technical and financial resources needed to implement projects focusing on energy efficiency, renewable energies and environmental sustainability.

The ceremony was opened by Néji Ghandri, Chairman of the CBF, who said: “The adoption of this agreement ushers in a new era of cooperation in our shared commitment to the energy transition. We are firmly resolved to implement concrete and efficient actions. The banking and financial sector is unwavering in its determination to play a crucial and central role in providing financial support for energy initiatives. This agreement represents a significant step towards a more sustainable and responsible energy future.

Fethi Hanchi, Director General of the ANME, said: “This joint action plan illustrates our mutual commitment to a sustainable energy future. We look forward to working closely with the CBF to achieve our common goals. ANME’s strong and active involvement in this collaboration reinforces our crucial role in realizing the ambitions of the National Energy Transition Strategy. By joining forces with the banking and financial sector, we are creating a powerful dynamic to accelerate the transition to a greener economy.”

The signing of the Framework Agreement marks the start of a strategic collaboration between ANME and the CBF, aimed at catalyzing efforts to promote the energy transition in Tunisia. These two institutions are joining forces to implement concrete initiatives and contribute to a more sustainable and affordable energy future.

The signing of this agreement is proof of the collective commitment to a successful energy transition, demonstrating the joint determination of ANME and the CBF to work together for a more sustainable energy future.
