“This season’s date production would be exceptional in terms of quantity and quality,” said Saad Seddik, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources.
In a statement to TAP correspondent on the sidelines of an international conference held Monday in Djerba, under the theme “fight against desertification and water collection in the Arab region,” the Minister stressed that this year’s production is estimated at 156,000 tons, up 12% from last year.
“Export operations started slowly,” said the minister, adding that arrangements were made after several meetings last week with the participation of stakeholders in the sector with the objective of accelerating the pace of such operations.
Seddik also added that efforts continue in order to access new markets, recalling that Tunisia last year exported nearly 100,000 tonnes worth 500 million dinars. We plan to export the same amount or 18% more, he added.
