Tunisia world’s 76th least corrupt country in business in 2022

Tunisia is the 8th least corrupt country in Africa in business in 2022, according to the Trace Bribery Risk Matrix, published by the international anti-corruption organization Trace,

Tunisia ranks 76th out of 194 countries, territories and autonomous and semi-autonomous regions worldwide, with an overall score of 45/100. Scores range from 1 to 100, and the closer the score to 1, the less likely it is that bribes will be demanded in the private sector. Conversely, a score close to 100 indicates a high probability of bribery.

The score is calculated by combining and weighting four factors: Opportunity (business interactions with government), Deterrence (application of the anti-corruption law), Transparency (transparency of government and civil service) and Oversight (monitoring capacity of civil society, including the role of the media). Tunisia’s score is the result of a weighting of 50 for “Opportunity”, 51 for “Deterrence”, 48 for “Transparency” and 31 for “Oversight”.

On the African continent, South Africa achieved the best continental score of 39 points, placing it 55th in the world, followed by the Seychelles (58th), Cape Verde (60th), Lesotho (61st) and Botswana (67th).

On a global scale, Norway scored the highest, with a score of 4, indicating a low propensity to demand bribes. It is followed by New Zealand (8 points), Sweden (9), Switzerland (10) and Denmark (11).

The countries with the highest demand for bribes are North Korea (93 points), Turkmenistan (88), Equatorial Guinea (88), Syria (88) and Venezuela (82).
